Application advantages of 5,6-Dihydroxyindole:
5,6-Dihydroxyindole (DHI) is an important intermediate of melanin, was first found in a plant in nature. The pure 5,6- dihydroxyindole is a colorless needle crystal with a melting point of 140℃, which is soluble in hot water but insoluble in petroleum ether. It is stable in crystalline state, but it quickly oxidizes into melanin-like substance in slightly alkaline solution. Because it has little irritation to human skin, it is used to replace commonly used aniline compounds (with carcinogenic, teratogenic and allergic adverse effects) as the active ingredient for blackening in some detergent products. For example, Japan's beauty source hair dye uses it as one of the main active ingredients. It is also a good antioxidant and can be used as an intermediate for the synthesis of some amino acids, alkaloids and tryptamine.
In recent years, with the development of new varieties of fine chemicals, the uses of 5,6- dihydroxy flavor are constantly emerging.
